First: Synopsis of subjects
This discipline was validated the master's degree in 1998. This discipline has 2 professors, 6 associate professors and 9 lecturers at present. For the past three years, it has obtained remarkable achievement in discipline construction, published 5 monographs and 100 articles, completed 20 projects, and won provincial level third prize 2 times. Shipping industry is closely related with international trade. Current international trade has been trinity area of cargo import and export, technology import and export, service trade, rather than entire import and export of goods, particularly the service trade has a constant growth tendency. The product of sea transport service provided by shipping industry is the important component of international service trade, thus the research on international service trade is one of this discipline characteristics. The school is located at Pudong New Area, directly participating in the development and opening of Pudong New Area. The main research area of this discipline has tight link with the development and opening of Pudong New Area; this discipline forms its own geographic features consequently.

Educational objectives of International Trade are to cultivate highly specialized talents who combine theory with practice, and gain all-around development in morality, intelligence and physique in international trade with shipping characteristic.

Introduction
Literature Reading:
According to its research area, postgraduates should read a certain amount of Chinese or foreign language material and master research fronts of course development during their study, integrating with tutor’s scientific research and their own needs of dissertation project selection.
 
Sixth: Postgraduates’ practical ability development
Postgraduates’ practical ability can be developed by two major approaches, including social and teaching practice. In social practice, students are arranged to participate in the research projects from government, institutes and enterprises; Students are guided to understand current needs and urgent major issues in industrial economics area, learning strategies and measures for economic analysis, and to learn formulating strategy and measures for economic analysis; Students are developed to improve their ability of decision-making consultation and economic management of enterprises and institutions, and to improve synthesis application ability of basic theory and professional knowledge. The thesis topics of graduates mainly come from the pieces of work for government and enterprises and institutions. Teaching practice mainly arranges postgraduates to take part in teaching assistant for undergraduate courses, assist teachers tutoring class discussion and correct students' papers, etc.
